With Christmas right around the corner, I found myself purging my home office closet to organize all the Christmas gifts I threw in there since August (yes, I start shopping for Christmas gifts in the summer) and came across these little gems.
They’re books I wrote while I was in elementary school and junior high.
Clearly I had always visualized myself becoming a writer when I grew up. I began writing in the second grade. It was something I was always passionate about.
It helped me clear my head, allowed me to use my imagination, and put what I created in my mind on a blank page. I always feel incredible after I write – a little lighter, in a way.
It de-clutters my mind and has always been a de-stressor if I’m ever feeling overwhelmed.
My mother is the reason I love to read and write. Dinnertime was often story time. She made up fictional stories on the fly to keep me from doing cartwheels in the kitchen while I was supposed to be eating my dinner.
Library trips were a weekly occurrence in my house. And reading in bed before I fell asleep was a habit I adapted into my nightly routine because it’s what my mom always did, and continues to do.
At one point I had so many books tucked under my pillow I’d wake up with them either accidentally knocked between my bed and the wall, or they ended up under the sheets at my feet.
I will always cherish these stories because they were a big part of what started me on this incredible journey.
